Home Grown

This is the first year I've had a vegetable garden and I am so thrilled with it so far! I live higher up on the mountain of the north shore, this elevation affects my flower garden being about two weeks behind gardens in the city. So when I see tulips blooming in Vancouver I know mine will pop up about ten to fourteen days later. Not to mention i have a family of squirrels living in the trees and a family of raccoons in the neighborhood that would rape my grape vine before harvest, EVERY damn year.  So this spring i finally ditched the grapevine (posted for free on craigslist, it found a new home in 20 mins) built a raised garden box (thanks hubby) and planted away. So far this year I've enjoyed lettuce, arugula, fresh herbs - cilantro, rosemary, thyme, oregano & chives, cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini, cucumbers and these gorgeous tomatoes! I'm still waiting on cantaloupe, butternut squash, beets and carrots. My peas were a fail and my carrots are looking pretty dinky, but you can't win them all right?
